Stairs and obstacles function
The stairs and obstacles function is unique in the field of prosthetics. It allows to negotiate stairs step-over-step with virtually no compensating movements. Intuitively while moving, with no special commands. An innovation that was unthinkable for non-motorised prostheses. Whether curbs or obstacles in the household - things of that nature, you can quite naturally overcome with the Genium.
Programming individually five MyModes
For most demands of everyday life, you can use the Genium basic mode. For special situations, you can programme individually up to five MyModes. Would you like to play golf? Then, your orthopaedic technician will exactly adjust the knee flexion, which you need for your personal teeing off. On site, you switch on the programmed mode and make a fine adjustment via the Cockpit app, if necessary. After teeing off, switch to the basic mode again with two clicks and proceed as usual to the next hole. The wide range of MyModes brings flexibility and independence - not only in training but also in different situations at work. So that you can actively shape your life.
Standing, even on slopes
The Genium detects when it is loaded for standing at rest. This makes it possible for you to distribute your body weight naturally and to load your joint in a balanced way without initiating the next step - even on slopes and uneven ground. For this purpose, you can choose between the intuitive and conscious standing function. Your orthopaedic technician enables the preferred version.
The advantage for bilateral prosthesis users
In the development of the Genium, we have paid particular attention to the needs of bilateral transfemoral amputees. Together with bilateral Genium users, we have developed solutions that meet the desire for more stability and safety. An example is the conscious standing function. Here, you initiate the function for a natural standing deliberately and finish also with a distinct signal, and that by relieving the prosthesis or slightly stretching it.
Simple control when being mobile: the Cockpit app
With the new Cockpit app for Android devices, the Genium provides an easy way to control the joint and to enable and disable functions such as the sitting function. The app also displays additional information such as the charge level of the Genium battery. A remote control is of course available as an optional accessory.
Smart energy management
The mean battery performance of the new Genium is five days. To save even more energy, the knee joint enables the seat function when sitting. The Genium then switches to a freely swinging state. This not only saves battery power, but on top of that is comfortable for you in this position. If the functions of the Genium are not in use, e.g. during prolonged sitting or in the event of a doffed prosthesis, you can select the Deep Sleep mode via the Cockpit app or the remote control. This deep sleep mode is simply practical in many situations - and saves energy.
Muting with the Mute Mode
Sometimes, a feedback by sound or vibration of the joint is not desired - for example, in the cinema, theatre, at work, around the middle of a lecture, or at home when children are asleep. With the new Genium, it is possible to activate the Mute mode via the Cockpit app or the remote control. Then, only emergency messages are sent by the joint.
The Genium is weatherproof and therefore protected from occasional exposure to water. A sudden rain shower while walking is no longer a problem and an obstacle for your active life.
Further development of OPG - The unique method of natural walking
The Genium simulates the natural gait almost identically - whether it be during a relaxed stroll through the city or walking quickly to the bus. This advanced technology is called optimised physiological gait (OPG). It enables an amazing freedom for you in everyday life, at work and beyond. The new Genium can be controlled even more intuitively now thanks to the experience of recent years. Everything for one goal: to simulate the best possible way of walking for you. That is, the natural, physiological one. Step by step. For an active life.
The knee joint is already pre-flexed when the heel strikes the ground – the way it is with a natural leg. This is automatically controlled by the electronics. You require less force to initiate a step, since the prosthetic foot makes full-surface contact with the ground more quickly.
(2) Adaptive yielding control
The knee flexion during full-surface contact between the prosthetic foot and the ground is regulated in an intelligent way, i.e depending on the forces acting on the prosthesis. You can safely negotiate hills, uneven terrain and slopes, need to pay less attention to controlling your prosthesis and are able to use it intuitively. Flexion also dampens the impact of the foot, which decreases compensating movements and therefore significantly reduces subsequent orthopaedic problems as well.
(3) Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
This is an innovative and patented method to monitor all movement situations. Six different parameters are continuously recorded in order to define the optimum switching point between the stance and swing phase. For you, this translates into enhanced safety, amongst other things, when walking backwards or lunging.
(4) Adaptive Swing Phase Control
The quality of the swing phase with the Genium is comparable to the natural model. The lower leg pendulum movement is precisely limited to 65° of flexion – regardless of the walking speed. The increased ground clearance minimises the danger of tripping and falling. Even on slopes, the angle-independent swing phase ensures sufficient ground clearance. There is no limitation of step variance, whether you are taking short or long steps, or walking slowly, fast or at irregular speed. The system even adapts intelligently to the respective shoe soles and clothing.
A prosthesis is only as good as the user's ability to handle it! The Genium is an innovative knee joint that offers you numerous functions. However, these functions have to be learned and practiced, especially in the beginning. This is the only way you can fully utilise the functionality of the Genium.
With "Genium Gait Training", Ottobock has developed a training programme that instructs therapists, technicians and users in detail about conducting efficient gait training. The programme is illustrated with clear videos. Activities which are practiced include walking backwards, going down stairs and negotiating slopes as well as the Genium standing function, sitting with the Genium, climbing stairs step-over-step and much more. Numerous exercises have been selected to increase safety and confidence early on in using the Genium.
Ideal prosthesis components
The prosthetic feet from the Triton family of products are suitable for active prosthesis users. They are made of a set of flexible carbon springs. This design allows the foot to function as a flexible unit, which creates a particularly smooth rollover. Notwithstanding the system's ability to move, the Triton feet provide a consistently high level of stability when walking and especially when standing. Furthermore, the foot's special prosthetic alignment ensures a powerful transition to the swing phase and a highly variable stride length. At the same time, the divided forefoot section gives the user the necessary control to deal with uneven ground and quick changes of direction. The Triton is extremely well suited for meeting the requirements of an active lifestyle. Thanks to its outstanding dynamic response and flexibility, it supports a broad range of applications from everyday use to recreational sports.
Triton Vertical Shock
The Triton Vertical Shock provides additional shock absorption. It adapts very well to uneven terrain (e.g. forest floor). The forces acting on the residual limb while walking are therefore reduced, providing noticeable relief for the user.
